Black cat. New grey patch.
About 6 weeks ago, our all black moggy had a nasty abcess on her side. Took her to the vet who shaved the area to clean the wound out. Now the fur is growing back pale wiry grey! She's always had a lovely glossy black coat (which I put down to the mount of crunchies she eats. Her brother doesn't eat them and his coat isn't half as nice)
Do you think it will keep growing like this now? She's only 3 and a half.
Also, this is the 2nd abcess she's had and her brother has also had 2. They are both outdoor and indoor cats (treat the place like a hotel) and are generally both healthy. Anyone know what could be causing it?
Thanks.

The holes are so small you wouldn't notice them and they close up dead quickly.
I have had Frankie to the vets a few times when he has started feeling ill from the abscess.
Maybe when your young ladie's winter coat comes in she will be glossy again.

It doesn't really bother us what her colour her fur is just thought it was really strange and its very noticeable!!
Being struck by another cats claw does seem likely as the tom does seem to like a good scrap. Comes in in all puffy tailed and puffy eyed.
Thanks again. (also for teaching me the correct spelling of 'abscess'!!!! lol)

I can't spell - that is why god invented spellcheck on my google toolbar.
My tom doesn't like fighting - he wants to play with his sister. She plays for a little while and gets fed up - then she whacks him. He is too stupid for words some times.
Happy Easter - or Happy Chocolate Egg guzzling weekend.

Hey lolly,
Sounds the norm. My tom had an abscess on his tail last year which had to be shaved and drained. (Bless him he looked like a poodle for weeks). He is a very glossy black coated cat and when the hair grew back it was slightly different to the rest of his fur. BUT having said that, through general moulting (I assume) you can now no longer tell unless you look really hard and if you knew.
