Yaiyai you've got Blanket weed. You can get an active bacteria control from most pet shops or garden centers
You may have to switch your active UV filter off for a few weeks. A common condition at this stage of the summer.
Good luck! Treatment costs a bit but should be able to do a few treatments

thanks for that. Will try and get some tomorrow.
It's worth getting a UV filter if you are prepared to pay the electricity board uses about 15 watts + what your pump is rated at. The tube for the UV filter should be changed each year depending on how long you have it switched on for.
Try to keep some of the pond shaded from direct sunlight to keep the blanket weed at bay.
As mentioned, you have what sounds like blanketn weed. A UV, shade or anything else will not prevent it. UV will help clear green water but not BW.
There is some stuff on the market which is available at most aquatic/pond shops and it's called "Cloverleaf blanket answer" It's about 17 for a bottle and it's like flour....you mix it with water and sprinkle it the pond. It's not a chemical, it's an enzyme which works by puncturing the single cell algea (blanket weed is made up of single celled algea) and the blanket weed literally "leaks" to death.

I use this stuff on my koi pond......i used it 3 years ago and ive not had a single bit of BW since although other ponds may vary and it is recommended to dose 8 times a year !!!!!

It's well worth the money.

Good luck

If you can get hold of some barley straw put some in a bag like you get peanuts in for the birds and put this in your pond. This will help clear up the cloudiness and make your pond crystal clear. Change the straw about once a month or once a fortnight in summer.
Barley straw will not clear blanketweed !!!
Just pull it all out. That's what we did. I did grow back after a while but pulling it out only takes ten minutes.
You shrank when you pulled it out? Must be something in the water!
