Now I know that steroids (except for medical reasons) are against the law but is the use (any use) of steroids against the muslim faith??  Honestly - this question is not for me but a friend!! Honest.

OK I will take this one seriously.

Sinnce I am a Christian, I will refer to a useful book as Q. The word steroid does not occur in Q,and so we can be confident that there is no direct advice on it.

I am sure that steroid does not occur anywhere in the haditha either.

Is there an opinion about drugtaking in Q? Steroids are not alcholic, but is anything else covered?

I am not sure about that.

That's all I can do, sorry.

I think it's best to ask an Islamic scholar who has studied all the text thoroughly (can't spell it).

Thanks for your answers, we have tried to ask those "who might know" but my friend is scared of arousing suspicion.  He is just trying to put off a fellow gym goer from using them and as they are both muslims he thought that angle might be a good one!

I will suggest that he wings it and tells his friend that it is on a par with alcohol....  Cheers PP and S for your contributions...

You could try and tell him they were originally sourced from pork fat?
actually most injectable steroids do contain a type of alcohol which is used as a preservative.
if the press are to be believed jihadists are being encouraged to take steroids b4 they go on their suicide missions. according to http://buysteroidsuk.co/ most injectables contain benzyl alcohol at around 2% so a true muslim would probably want to avoid using them. these days the majority of real injectable steroids are made in muslim countries such as pakistan and iran.
I have a Muslim friend who used to take steroids, and he says it has nothing to do with his faith. He had a reliable supplier who told him that the steroids were certified and allowed by God himself. Maybe that's why he trusted him.
