HI All,

We have a bearded collie cross age approximately 10 years old. Last Friday she was fine all day until about 7.30pm where she started limping (this was her rear left leg). She didn't seem to be in much pain (no whimpering etc).

She slowly improved on Saturday, putting the leg down every few minutes and by Sunday she was back to normal.

Hwoever, it has all started again now. She is limping and again seems happy enough except for the fact that she won't put the paw down.

Any thoughts / ideas?

Yes, take her to the vet!!

Well done.

Any constructive advice please.
vic that IS constructive advice!
to add, at a guess it sounds like she has a slipping patella....get it checked!!
She may have picked up something in her foot . Have a good feel round her foot and see if she whimpers at any certain point. But I would certainly take her to vets if it persists.
Dogs often pick things up in the pads of their feet, sometimes as small as a grass seed which can cause great irritation.

Thanks - have felt all her pads and nothing seems to make her flinch.

Have also felt all her legs (and manipulated them) and am very doubtful that it is a slipping patella.

Am wondering if it is some form of arthritis - but it seems to come on for a couple of days and then go off again - not sure that it makes sense
Well, I limp much more some days than others with my arthritic knee, so dogs are probably the same!
Sounds like a touch of arthritis, try her on some glucosamine supplement or Denes Greenleaf, and you could get her a Biolflow collar. I'd check with the vet first in case she has done something like damage a cruciate ligament, but the intermittent lameness would indicate arthritis more likely. Probably worse when the weather is damp, like my shoulder!
Did you find out what was wrong with your dog?

If nothing is found by the vet bear in mind that she could be conning you into supplying extra cuddles or sweets.

I hope that she is okay. My Lab-cross had arthritis and he took ages to get out of bed in the morning.
