hi there, from my experience you might be best to buy a master water testing kit from your local aquatics shop & test your water parameters (ph level, ammonia, nitrite & nitrate levels) especially if you have fish dying. if its misty water tryin putting some carbon in your filter (like a black gravel box/bag of stuff), this is also easy to get for about £4 from...

If it's a new tropical tank, have you 'cycled' it yet? If not, look here:

you can get a special bottle of cleaning agent you mix with the tap water, you will need to know the water capacity of you tank so you add enough of this cleaning solution. It makes the tap water safe and helps the fish and keeps the water clean and clear. Theres lots of different makes, some call it 'tap safe' etc but i have gone for the well known expensive fish company make because you dont have to add much.
This is what i use, u should be able to buy it at your local fish place

My goldfish tank with filter is cleaned weekly. I bale out two thirds of water & pour remaining + fish into separate container. Scrub tank with nylon scourer, clean filter, ornaments etc. Fill tank with cold tap water.
Gently pour cold tap water into container with fish to remove any sediment - pour all back into tank. n.b . make sure the air filter vent is above dirt sediment at bottom of tank. My 7 rescued gf from pond have been in tank for 2y, & turned from black to gold.

This may also get rid of your algae. I hope this helps....
