Hello all,
Can anyone please help with our problem. Our 2 year old poodle has very bad breath. We've taken her to the vet frequently and she has had all sorts of tests. Her teeth are fine and there is nothing else wrong. she has had scans & X rays etc. We have been told by the vet that its probably her digestion. She eats dry food, drinks water and has vegetables as treats. We have even tried stopping the veg, but no difference. We have a mouth spray but we would like to try and tackle the root cause. Does anyone have any tips we could try please.
Thank you.

If there is any sign of tartar on your dogs teeth that can be the cause of bad breath, what were the scans and x rays for? Has the vet checked kidney and liver function, for diabetes or even a stomach ulcer?

No, no sign of tartar. X - rays and scan was done because she seemed to yelp when he felt around her lower abdomen, but nothing found. I think he thought there might be a problem with her bladder. Nothing abnormal found.
Sorry this is late, but don't get notifications (wish I did).

I am sure he checked for all those, as he passed a catheter and did a urine check.
Your vet should be best placed to find out what is causing her bad breath, and I would not take 'probably her digestion' as an answer. I would be inclined to get a second opinion from another vet, especially as she seems to be in pain in her abdomen.
I used to give garlic pearls to my greyhound - just one a day. Sounds daft, I know, but it did help. Helped keep the fleas at bay too.

Thank you everyone. We did get a second opinion, and this was the vet that told us that her teeth etc were fine.
I will give the garlic a try though, I think I've heard of that before. Thanks for all your help and advice, it is much appreciated.
