I have a one year old cat- we live in the countryside.
Only thing is she is killing one sometimes two animals a day (mouse, shrews, birds, voles)
It's getting ridiculous and yesterday I had to watch a bird die that she brought in (it died after few mins)

I just dont know what to do to stop her- She has a bell on her collar and I have punished her by giving her a little tap on bottom but nothing stops her.
Anyone got any advise except for moving away or locking her in??!!

You will never change her, but she will get older and eventually catch less. I have an 8 year old Jr cross.she kills everything she can catch , birds, mice , doves , pigeons, last week she brought me a hibernating rolled up hedgehog, fleas and all.Her legs were bleeding , she had spines in her face, the hedgehog was undamaged , so out in the nightie to put it back at some ungodly hour.Only let her go out for a wee when she woke me up.Grrrrrr!!!!!
love the last two posts.
with due respect to Brenda I meant squarebear and beattie
Beef flavoured cat food? Is a cat capable of catching and killing a cow?

Frankie is demanding his Felix - and he isn't very subtle.
That's cruel jaydah! It's natural for them to hunt & bring the 'odd prezzie' home.
Its natural for dogs to attack in defence of their perceived territory - but we control that.

I hate to see fat cats killing just cause they can. Pull out their claws !
And i'll pull out your fingernails one by one!!!!!!!

It is survival of the fittest....your cat is only catching those that are weaker or slower...and of course-the more she catches, the better and quicker she will get. You can't stop it,nor can you expect every cat to be the same.

One very important thing....GET RID OF THE COLLAR. As has been said before....cats can get caught on branches or even strangled by collars. With microchipping (which I hope yours is) , it's not necessary to have a collar.
Show some care for your wildlife; either keep your cat it or watch it while its out.
Oh i'm not worried flob, he's picking on the wrong person!

am not picking on any person - just anwering the OP concerns. All pet owners should respect the wild life.

get a grip here people - pastafreak is quite correct - cats kill things - that's why they are here, that's how they are wired to survive - most people have had their wings clipped by the government's elf n safety policies - let's not extend it to our pets - they are compromised enough anyway with the lifestyles many have to live.. Nature is not all bunnies skipping through the sunlit woods, meeting up and having tea together - things die and I'm sorry, just cos you give kitty a bowl of Felix won't change her instincts.
jaydah...part of respecting wildlife is letting it sort itself out. Cats are far less domesticated than dogs-and most revert to what they would do in the wild. ......that means killing -and eating-small wildlife.

Hiya floba....we know your dog is a softie...lol
