Although my mutt loves a romp in the snow, the poor article comes back coompletely covered in big snowballs up and down her legs and along her chest and undercarriage.
It doesnt seem to bother her while we are in the snow but when we come in it looks really uncomfortable and nearly painful.
I have read on some sites that a way to overcome it is to cover her legs in cooking oil etc before she goes out but this seems v messy!
Any other suggestions?

can you keep her undercarriage clipped short?

She is a rescue mutt and is close to being bald on her underside woofgang.
It is her legs that get really badly covered with snowballs.
HI, I'm fostering a little jack x right now and he has long fur, he seems fine when he goes out in the garden but came home from his forest walk yesterday looking like a clipped poodle!!!! I just left him in the kitchen for a while to de-frost then gave him a quick blast with the hair dryer while I pulled the remainder off.....two minutes later he was back in the garden burying himself in the snow with the help of our youngest cat!!!!

ps....anyone want a rather mad jack x lhasa?
Mine gets the snow balls too on her legs and feet. If they are really bad when we get back I just bathe them in cool/tepid water in a bucket or washing up bowl, which is enough to melt them ,and then dry her off.
Cooking oil sounds gross!
Max is a long haired GSD, and like divegirl I go with a hair drier, 4-5 minutes in the garage softens then up and lets me comb then out and dry him off before we're let back into the house
Why not try a 'trouser suit' type coat which covers the legs and belly? You can get nylon ones from most big pet shops.
I am having the same problem, they dont like walking in it at the moment as they get snow balls between their pads even though the hair is short.

These trouser suits are good value too.
