Trying to grow spring onions

I've started to grow some spring onions and garlic chives indoors. They've started coming through almost 2 weeks now but they look very weak and have flopped over onto the soil. They're not dead and not dried out, just looks like they are too weak to stand upright. Is this normal and will they perk up as they grow?

yes, they've been watered. Maybe I just don't have green fingers!

Mine are longer than those, beejay, and are lying horizontal on the soil! Apart from that, they look ok, not dried out at all, just very fragile looking.

youre not 'feeding' them - as they just need watering-not over watering tho

No, I haven't fed them with anything. I think perhaps I've over watered them! I'll see if they improve over the next few days if I let them dry out a bit. Failing that, I'll be back at Tesco's buying my spring onions and chives!!

They need lots of light, there probably won't be enough indoors even on a window sill.

Do you have a garden or a small patch or earth? If so wait another couple of weeks and try sewing some new seeds directly inot the ground outdoors.

If not try replanting your little plants into new pots - they might come back in soemnew soil and a little watring when they are dry.

Spring Onions and Chives need plenty of good soil,they have long roots,try growing them in buckets with drain holes in the bottom,and let them grow in a sunny spot outside.

It could be Damping off, basically a fungal disease. Check the base of the stems and soil for a white podery mould. It can be a problem with seeds sown indoors/under glass. You can help avoid it by making sure all pots/trays are sterilised before use and you only sew into new clean soil. Try to ensure plenty of airflow around seedlings by not overcrowding.
