Definitely not a halti with a long lead - they are not meant for that, you need close control to guide the head, or else the dog might either get it off with their paw or you will be pulling the dog incorrectly if you are not in the correct place to use it properly.
The 'fish' shaped greyhound collars are fine with extending leads or long lines. You can also get a 'martingale' collar which you could use for a bit more control and won't come off.

It actually says on their website not to be used with a halter. Here's a link to martingale collars:

I detest 'long leads', IMO all they do is to teach the dog to pull against the lead and an excuse not to train recall.
Teach a reliable recall and use a short lead when required and give the dog a proper free run when in suitable surroundings.
Recall can be started very early on; just give the command whenever you feed your pup. Also reward with a tasty treat for returning to you when commanded. He will soon learn that if he comes when he hears the command he will get a good reward.
Just don't let him off the lead until you have trained him; it really doesn't take long if you are consistant.
