Belgian Shepherd Malinois
4 Answers
I was just watching the Police Dog (talk about courage)You Tube clip, and think the dog in that was probably a Malinois, judging from the speed. If anyone wants to see a bit more of this wonderful breed (I'm biased - lok at the avatar!) watch this You Tube clip!

If you watch them doing manwork at a demo you will see they often have to go in and get the dog off the sleeve, whereas the GSD's just do it for fun and will come off when commanded.
The first time i saw them working as police dogs was at Discover Dogs a few years back, and I think they said that either the German or Dutch police forces were starting to use them as well as GSD's and they were very impressive, but I realise that they are different from showing/pet dogs, although I can quite see my girl bounding away and grabbing someone, but she'd do it for fun! Mind you, anyone would get away from her if they had a biscuit on them - I've never had such a greedy Malinois - that comes from living with 2 labradors!
Reminded me of once seeing a football riot in Southend. There were beer glasses flying about all over the place and lots of policemen in leather riot gear - and a huge police dog who was so wound up he was determined he was going to have a go at someone, and he didn't much care who! I certainly wouldn't have wanted to be on the receiving end of what he was handing out ... even if his tail was wagging like fun. He was up for it and he wasn't remotely fussy who got it, either!!
