Editing holiday videos

Can anyone recommend a programme to me for editing my holiday videos.
It doesn't have to be free but does need to be user friendly.
I don't want to do anything fancy, just really cutting out the boring bits and joining all the separate bits of film to make a whole.
I don't know if this is possible - but I would also love to be able to take a 'snapshot' from a screen to get a photo for printing.

Most versions of Windows come with Windows Movie Maker, which is perfectly good enough for your needs.

If you've not got it, the latest version (now called 'Windows Live Movie Maker 2011') is available as a free download from Microsoft:

Once you've got your finished video, you'll want to play it. There are two video players which are both about a zillion times better than Windows Media Player. They're VLC

Unlike WMP, both of those players allow you to take 'snapshots' from your videos. (Don't expect superb quality though; you won't get it. That's not a fault of the programs. It's simply that there's not enough data within any video file to get really 'crisp' snapshots).

Windows "movie maker" is fairly simple to use and will cope with most of your basic editing needs and its free. :-)

Just one more question if either of you (or anyone else) are still around ...I found a Nero programme on my husbands work computer which has 'Nero vision' and it says video editor - is this any good or am I still better with the windows one?

For advanced work Nero Vision might be worth looking at but Windows Movie Maker is probably better for your needs. It's fairly easy to get to grips with. Here's all you'll need to know:
