spills on a sofa

My son has managed to spill some shower gel on our relatively new sofa today, obviously I can't use water to clean it off as it will just foam up. I have soaked up as much as I can and am drying it off, but can anyone suggest anything else that I could do, also I need to get rid of the smell (lynx is nice in moderation, but it is a bit overpowering :) ). The sofa has got a non washable chenille type cover

Don't panic.  Personally I would wet it and wash as much out as you can, drying between washes - so long as the cover is still on the cushion and you are not wetting the whole thing it won't shrink.  Then buy a product call Vanish Powershot and spray on - it is really good and will remove any staining - great on carpets as well.
