bless youR
Kate - I think that would be a fantastic rescue. 3-legged pets compensate wonderfully well - there are many I see around this area and in the forest. Big Sis has a lurcher and it is a great dog - affectionate, lively, very loveable. I hope it works out x
sorry slinky!.......pressed enter by mistake!.....meant to say: bless your son!......dogs with 3 legs do well, have many happy years to enjoy!........

its really cute,do you think it will manage the stairs o k
We have a lurcher-cross, wonderful animal, great naturue and brilliant fun.

Your son will give it a good loving home xx
stais should be no problem slinky, it will have 3 long legs!..........we can manage them, and we have only 2!.........lol.........should be fine.............
Brilliant!

That's just lovely. Bless him.

Slinky. It will manage everything a four legged dog can do, except perhaps cocking his leg for a pee!! That could prove difficult!!
Yes go for it, Stairs, no worries! lurchers are great dogs.
I reckon so Kate.
Dogs and cats seem to adapt remarkably well to only having three legs. My niece's cat was involved in an accident and she was determined to save her if possible. The vet had to amputate one of her legs but she gets around easily and has survived for several more years. Still alive in fact.

by the way its his front leg thats missing, his name is cody and it was abandened so we dont know if it was a car accident or what happened, the girl who works at the centre was giving the dog a biscuit and she said to him 'sit and he did, then she said'give me a paw'i laughed and said you already took it' then she realised what she said,
Good on you Kate, given some of the threads and opinions on animal treatment flying around here tonight, it is good to hear a nice story and one that I subscribe to.

My sis has an Irish that has a very badly damaged back leg and he handles the steps up and down to their beach remarkably wel - just take care at night with a well lit patio etc etc - whatever you have if it involves "ups and downs" for the dog.
Smashing news, kate. I do hope you take him.

The lady who runs our local hedgehog hospital has a dog with one leg missing. Sadly, the dog has a tumour on her head and her days are numbered, but the missing leg doesn't seem to give her any problems at all.
Question Author
we are taking a couple of days to think about it,as i am out all day tuesday and i dont want it left in the house on its own,its the only day i go out but i dont want it left for a long period of time til'it settles in
quite right slinky, when your new dog arrives you need to be there to spend time to bond with it!.........my best wishes go with you!..............
Definitely go for it...I have a lurcher, and she's the sweetest girl. Mine was used for who knows what, and she'd never seen stairs. It took a few weeks for her to get used to them...she now flies down them.
oh kate. a great idea. i like lurchers.
Great Kate. Funnily enough... dogs and cats with a leg or eye missing seem to go well before the unhampered animals. I suppose it awakens something in the mind that they need just that little bit of extra attention.
Question Author
do lurchers have any bad traites like barking, growling, are they good natured, lovable
kate, they are gentle loveable dogs. Seldom bark, unless they are given a fright.

They sometimes make you feel as if they say 'excuse me, could you please throw my toy for me, if it's not too much trouble'
