If it was my dog, I would NEVER carry it on a front seat or allow anyone else to. Dogs should be in crates or carry cages or secured by proper harness in the BACK of the car for their own safety.
Has he been castrated? it could be a scent thing but it could be nerves, you mention that he drools too. My eldest is very nervous about traveling in the car depite doing it regularly. We have to keep a kitchen roll in the car to mop up the drool. He's happy to get in and doesn't whine, just drools with a very sad look on his face. If he (Pablo) is being taken away by a stranger in a strange car he could be worried and is peeing because of that. If you are getting bad vibes then he might be too and that's not going to help.
Sounds like something is exciting him sexually, as Ratgirl asked is he castrated ?
Have you noticed him sniffing around excessively and/or slightly 'chattering' his teeth while sniffing and/or foaming around the mouth slightly (not rabies!) - if so this means something definitely is making him feel a bit randy, male dogs do this if they are entire or castrated....lol...perfectly normal behaviour and at only 18months he should grow out of it.
