In Memory of Don Johnson, RIP.

Lil's dad passed away on Saturday. After being given a 'few months' 2 years ago, he lived to see his daughter get married (again) & to walk her down the asile (again) , 2 Christmasses, a Father's Day and his 80th birthday. I've known the man all my life - a funny, awkward, emotionally-constipated man who never once told his daughter he loved her or that she looked beautiful, even on her wedding day(s). But we all know he thought it.

But the memories are many and amusing - his ferrets escaping from the cage to attack Lil's mum's fluffy mules because they thought they were rabbits, and Don having to chase them off with a bunch of dead daffodils.... We laughed til we wet ourselves (Lil never did grow out of that habit...). We'd always get into scrapes & fob our mother's off with tales of our innocence, but he was never fobbed off. He banned us from bellringing because of the British Legion chair incident. My last memory of him is dancing at a bbq last summer twirling him around to some south american rhythm. He dropped a surruptitious SBD then blamed me....

RIP Donald. We know you loved us all really x

If I'm being honest I really did think that the actor Don Johnson had passed away when I saw this in Latest Posts! Was a bit of a shock.

For those of you that don't know, Lil is the rather fine looking lady in my avatar photo (the blonde one).

Two funny men who I have known all my life have died within the last 5 months - first my Uncle Maurice, who I have wrote about before who was a ladies' man and a distinguised military history. And now Don, who was not quite so distinguished (!) or such a hit with the ladies (!), but was just as funny & as loved.

Constipated Ed, in that he had feelings deep inside and deeply embedded, but just couldn't get them out...... A triple dose of Senokot wouldn't have got that man to have said anything remotely loving or soppy.

The British Legion chair incident involved green crimplene trouser suits (we were only 10), a bellringers lunch function, laughing so hard we wee'd ourselves on the green canvas chairs leaving huge obvious stains & a suspicious odour, and blaming the tea lady for walking past with a kettle and spilling water onto our seats..... Don didn't fall for that one.

It has always been his daughter & wife who blamed SBD's on others - so it was a bit of a shock when he did!!! Being the lady that I am, I took the blame, but like to think that everyone knew the real truth......

I am sure someone will Ric. Memories, and especially funny ones, are precious. We would have to be a pretty darn awful person to not have some people hold fond memories of us.

Maurice & Don were worlds apart in personality and lifestyle, but each loved for their own little foibles and different traits - attractive or otherwise!
