Anyone Recommend Glucosamine Tablets for my Elderly Dog?
11 Answers
My dog is now 15 years old and in the past few weeks her back legs give way. Vet said for me to buy Glucosamine tablets, but I just wondered if anyone has seen any improvement with their dogs legs?
Thank you

My labrador who is 3 has bilateral elbow OCD which is a cartilage disorder. She has daily glucosamine but proper animal ones. She is great on them and has no stiffness at all. Before she started on them, she was limping very badly. She walks 1 to 2 hrs a day and does loads of running with the other dogs I walk (that's my job!)

15 is a great age for your dog to have reached - what make is he/she? Certain breeds are more predisposed to joint problems and older dogs (especially overweight ones) do 'give way' on their back end. Vet obviously diagnosed joint problems. I had a very elderly coliie - in no way overweight but definitely suffering from arthritis- she did very well on Metacam but I was very careful to withdraw the medication when she was going through a 'good period' (arthritis comes and goes) there are of course very many other reasons for your dog's symptoms -has she maybe Lab/GSD in her or is she a particularly big, heavy dog? Hope all goes well
My mum's cat had terrible problems with his back legs in his later years. She gave him Extract of Green Lipped Mussel and it worked a treat for him.
