cats behaviour - paper

Why do my cats prefer to sit on paper?  If i'm reading a map/magasine/newspaper on the table they'll choose to sit there in front of my instead of anywhere else.  Should we leave said bit of paper on the floor, they'll choose to sit on that rather than a random bit of carpet.  Why is this?

I've no idea why but it's not just cats, dogs do it too! I have a little dog who loves to fall asleep on the newspaper just when I want to look at it & will even lie next to thick hardback books & rests his head on them.

Still, it's not as bad as finding he's made a very hairy bed on the coat I'd popped on the chair ready to go out in!!

Paper is a good insulator and I guess that cat's like the texture.

my cat does exactly the same, she comes along and plonks herself down. she used 2 do it to my wireless keybord but it caused problems by switchin the pc off, so now she's learnt not to sit on n e thing apart from papers. she also sits on our clothes when she has a perfectly good bed.

My kitty used to love warm, fresh laundry! :)

Our large Maine Koon (sp due to potential editing) loves to pull laundry off of the radiatiors.  It doesn't seem to matter to him whether it's damp or not!

Most of the time it's because they want your attention.  If you're focusing on a newspaper, the cat thinks that sitting on top of it will mean that you'll pay some attention to it instead.  The same goes for keyboards.

But that's not always the case because when our cat has the whole carpet to sit on, he will find the one scrap of paper on the floor and sit on that!

Our youngest cat (6 mnths) loves to sit on the paper you're reading, but we've never had a problem with the keysapejnenfu849kjy-mm[80klo9um#

yes i to have 2 cats and they love to sit on paper or clean washing....even if it is still wet!
