My dog has had diorhhrea on and off for about 10 days. He's also been scratching his hind quarters to the extent that there is a bald patch approx 2 inches which sometimes bleeds. He also has a funny smell coming from his ears that comes and go,s. I,ll be taking him to the vet first thing in the morning. Ive been googling and am wondering if it could be mange but dont understand how he might have caught it. He is like our baby and very well looked after!
Glad he's seen the vet. The anal gland thing is awful and he will feel a lot better now. But be warned that some dogs need this done regularly so he might have to have it done again in the future. Kind of your father to help you.
my post was directed at the fact your dog was obviously feeling much better after his visit to the vet - not that your children won't starve as you had been lent some money! - although of course I'm pleased to hear that too
At least its put your mind at rest Love, I know what vets fees are all about lately, our cat cut her paw & it became infected, treatment was £105.00. We did claim £55.00 back from out Tesco pet ins. tho.
You certainly should be able to claim some back but it depends on the excess - they will take that out of any settlement. Glad you have it - vet's fees and treatment costs quickly add up.
If he has had diahroah for a while, that will probably have caused the anal glands to fill, and you need to get the digestive problem sorted or his anal glands wont empty on their own. Try giving him a bland diet for a few days, (chicken and/or fish and rice, or Chappie if you are on a budget). If that doesnt resolve it, the vet may have to investigate further. I assume the vet took his temperature?
