Our dog seems to walk in a 'trance' looking for something

Out walking our dog, she seemed to want to keep walking on past where we turn off the path to go home. I call her and she turns and comes back but recently she tried to get to the same place via the roadway and was killed.
I would like to find out what she was trying to find, and now feel really bad that I didn't follow her the first time :-(

Oh how awful for you I'm so sorry to hear about your dog, you must be so upset. Don't blame yourself about not trying to find out what she was looking for, I think we would all do the same under the circumstances. Sending you hugs for your loss, I hope you come to terms with things and can stop feeling so bad that you didn't follow her instincts. xx
