Random question

I am puzzled as to the prevalence of 'random' in today's vocabulary.
Some 'random person' texted me.
Some 'random' accosted me on the street.

What's wrong with 'stranger'?

I have also heard youngsters describe someone as a Randomer: " A randomer stopped me in the street and asked me where I bought my shoes"

Never heard this one before. Language from youngsters now takes on a whole different meaning doesn't it....can't keep up but the only thing I feel sad about is we are losing the language we know and grammatically it's changing beyond recognition, or it will do leaving it up to the young of today.

I think you're right Factor. Otherwise we'd all still be saying things like;
