I am from Australia and we often use Citronella in deterring insects. It is a really nice smelling, healthier alternative and we really do find it works. The thing is...mossies can be brutal...some times, during different seasons not even the most potent chemicals can deter them. Give the natural option a try first before resulting to the chemicals.

We live in draughty old England, but in the summer, we always have two or three Citronella candles on & around the patio table or benches.

They do seem to deter uninvited little guests - whoops I mean pests!

Interestingly (or not, depending on your opinion) they don't actually deter insects. They just block their sensors so they don't know you're there. So they may sill be all around you but they're much less likely to bite.

Blocking their sensors so they don't know you're there?

Surely, that in itself must still be some kind of deterrent then Mike! Tut!
