Animals and birds quizz help if you can. All the answers are obvious once solved but would love help on this one: "salt state" links to a 6 letter bird or animal, but so far it has eluded me.

A bit iffy but here goes-salt can mean sailor. Another word for a sailor is jack. Jack+Al for Alabama =jackal.

Chapeau ( as the French might say), absolutly amazing. We tried cop variations but not kop. The hammercop is an interesting looking bird. Many thanks.

The French say "chapeau" [ meaning hat of course] in a nod to removing one's hat as a mark of respect - so it means ace, brilliant, well done, etc.
