have we recently changed the law regarding having offensive weapons in public?
its only another step away from carrying guns....the catalyst to this whole current problem

I for one don't blame them. They were prepared to protect their place of worship, i found it quite admirable.
The real difference, and one which i think is quite important is that they weren't going to go rampaging through the streets indiscriminately smacking folk on the bonce with them, though I'd have cheered if they actually did, a la vigilante styley!

I dont think that it is wrong to defend your place of worship or home or buisness. Maybe if people took more responsibility for themseselves we wouldnt have this mess. Little tearaways looting - where are their parents ? Down the pub or off their faces on something or another one things for certain they are not being good parents and mentoring their children properly. Sorry I dont get why the Gov. dont just bring in marshall law the world over everyone knows looter are shot.
The Turkish Community too were out to defend their shops
// Whilst serious violence hit the borough last night as disturbances spread across Hackney Central, Hackney Downs and London Fields, further west in Dalston the Turkish community took to the streets to defend their shops and businesses on Kingsland Road.
There were a series of small confrontations from around 9.30pm between groups of youths and Turkish business owners and other members of the Turkish community on Kingsland Road, just north of Crossway.
One Turkish man told the Citizen that the youths had attempted to attack the Tugra baklava shop, but that it had been successfully defended by the community without police help. //
The Brits seem to be scared and stand by while the feral kids smash up their communities. Maybe lurid tabloid stories of people being attacked or even killed has unwittingly given the scumbags free reign. Good to see the Turks and sikhs and Asian protecting themselves.

I believe taking the law into your own hands is illegal, but I also suspect the police have enough on their hands at the moment to consider telling them to all go home, a low priority, and unlikely to be effective anyway. Whilst they just stand there on guard looking menacing, well the situation is tolerable.
