This isn't so much a question as a vent for my anger. As most of you know, I have a little farm in the mountains of west Wales and I've now got rid of all my sheep except one old ewe, whom I hand reared and who is as much a pet as my dogs and cats are, and her daughter. Well, I went up to their field this morning to check they were OK and I found poor old Molly cast, on her back, but, thank goodness, still alive. She must have gone over only a short while earlier, as cast sheep can die very quickly. Anyway, when I got to her and got her back onto her feet, I saw that the damned crows have pecked her left eye out while she was down. I know they do this, but I've never had it happen to any of my sheep before. The old girl doesn't seem too distressed by it, strange, I know, but she's grazing normally now. Thank goodness they didn't do it to both her eyes, otherwise I'd have to put her down. I just feel so sorry for the poor old thing. K

I repeat, I leave the farming issues to the farmers. I just put the clothes back in the washing machine. I hate the things but can't harm them

The comment about looking out my OH's air-rifle was a very poor attempt at humour.

General query, if my dog was sleeping in back-garden and attacked by crows? Hopefully the mutterooni would not allow this to happen to herself, but just a general question??
Must say DT I wish you hadn't been so explicit with illegal ways of killing birds! There will be some who didn't know how to until then....and what a terribly cruel way to do it IMO.

Dogs have got more guts than sheep!! Having said that, Molly's daughter (the one with the bad attitude) will chase my sheepdogs (who are now more or less redundant & spend most of their time rounding up the cats & chickens!) out of the field!! Might have to move the girls down nearer the house for tonight. K
eek now you're scaring me Trim:D
Its well known daisya believe me - just google carbide and seagulls ....the deterrents aren't though - a mate of mine in the States had problems with Herons and installed one of the bigger ones I am referring too and it was brilliant at keeping them off (and fun to watch) - that doesnt kill them.

Trim, Yes, that's where I'd take it, you know he won the £200 draw at the Oak a couple of weeks back? Money goes to money. He's a nice guy, anyhow, used to have the odd pint with my hubby. K
Kleiber, not mine, she'd show you the biscuit tin if you walked in:)

Going back to the crows, though, I wouldn't be cruel to anything or make it suffer, so I think shooting's the best solution - providing you're a good shot! Anyway, crows are officially classed as vermin (much the same as bunnies & foxes), so no problem there....

How much tung oil do you need, Trim? I know lots of people.

what are you making, trim, a guitar?

Daisy - just to add I do not condone the methodologies used - shooting is the best, given that one is a good shot.....and anybody who sees what Kleiber has experienced will have no problem in plugging the little b-s.
beat me to it, no pun meant.....

Watch this space - I'll see what I can do! Have you tried the guitar shop in Aber? The one you can't get parked outside, on the road up to the hospital from town, on the right.
