is two years too young for potty training? My Daughter in law seems to be rushing her Daughter on, and now potty training at 2 yearsd and 2 weeks seems a bit of a rush through babyhood to me. Do you think this is o.k., or am i being old fashioned and think She should wait until the child says something??
thanks,

annie.?

I think it is different for all children (maybe your granddaughter is advanced?) - I think it is too young but I suppose your daughter in law will find this out for herself. Probably best to let her get on with it (she'll soon give up if it is not a success (I hope) - my 3 1/2 year old twins are still in nappies, they are clueless about potty training, but they will get the hang of it when they are ready).
my daughter started using the potty at 1 and half years old, i didnt really try to get her potty trained either, one morning her nappy leaked down her leg as it wasnt on properly and since that day she has never worn a nappy in the day, she has only ust become dry at night though and she will only ever wee on toilet she still insists on a nappy when she needs a number 2!
My daughter was trained before 2. My sons were nearly 3. I left it for them to start.
If you put Potty Training in the dark red search box at the top of this page, you will find loads of previous posts about this subject. Some do, some don't, it depends on the child.
I started mine at 2yrs and within a month she was dry, but she was dry during her daytime nap so I followed on from there.
my grandmother potty trained my mother at 16 months (back in the 60s), I potty trained my own daughter this year after numerous failed attempts over the previous year she finally got the hang of it aged 3years and 1 week.

All children are different, if your granddaughter's not ready it won't work, when she is ready it'll only take a few days! If I were you I'd leave well alone, its up to the mother and you don't wanna come across as interferring, if she wants your advice/opinion she'll ask.

back to potty training, had limited success on thursday, now the parents have the little madam for the weekend, so perhaps they will come to a decision, as it is a worrying thing to take her to a toddlers singing and dancing group without a nappy on, (which I had to do), its panic, panic, panic every time she says anything like poo poo. ( peek a boo had me worried, I rushed for the potty, she went behind a chair, looked through the bars and said " peek a boo") there's no peace for the wicked. Never mind, we were all kids at sometime, not that I remember any of it.

Annie,
I think every child is different with some potty training earlier than others. It’s generally best to work with a child when they are ready and mature enough to understand and should not be forced, but it is quite possible to train them as young as two or two and a half. It really comes down to a parent’s approach and the personal readiness of a child. You might want to check out this three-day potty training guide and show to your daughter-in-law as well: http://easybabytote.com/new-parent-tips/potty-training/simplified-potty-training-guide/ .
