getting a puppy!

It's nearly two years since we lost our little dog Oliver, said I'd never do it again, but now I feel so lost without a dog to walk and cuddle up with!........thinking of a Cocker Spaniel girl!..........What are your thoughts?..

Thousands of rescue dogs out there need a home and a second chance. I've had rescues for years now and would never buy from a breeder.

need to have a puppy postdog!.......have looked at rescue dogs, I have grandchildren, and so the new dog needs to grow with them!...don't want to risk a rescue dog!........need to know that I have reared and trained her!.........

I always prefer dogs to bitches. They always seem to be so much more affectionate to me. Other than that though, your plan sounds an excellent one to me.

When I was a kid (half a century ago!) lots of people had spaniels but they seem to have lost out in the popularity stakes over recent years (to old favourites such as golden retrievers and new arrivals such as labradoodles). That's a shame, because all spaniels are gorgeous:

We saw a mate and his wife today and they'd just got back from picking up their new JR puppy, eight weeks old and as cute as anything you've ever seen

Welsh, I had a golden cocker spaniel bitch for 13 years. I adored her and she was a wonderful doggy. She was fab with kids, she was very excitable and very very affectionate. I was 16 when i got her. I lost her when I was 29 and I have been thinking about getting another one, but I now live in a flat and work long hours so it wouln't be fair. Roll on retirement so I can have another one lol.

That's my trouble too, I dread to think what I'd do if I lost Max.We've always had a GSD but I feel we're both too old for another especially a puppy, so if we do decide to get another dog we'd probably rescue a little doggy.

paddywak, I just love GSDs, but not confident to take on a pup at my age now!..but some smaller breeds are much harder to cope with!.........hope that my choice of a Cocker Spaniel (show type, less energetic than the working type) is the right one for me!.......

Oooh! a new puppy, lovely. My sister has a Cocker spaniel, big softie, sits beside you on the sofa and touchs your cheek really gently with his fat furry paw when he wants attention.
