Well unfortunately there is no known cure for stupidity. Lucky for his family maybe that he didn't drag them in to the water with him!

Some People never learn and this poor guy has paid the price.
I have swam in the Sea in several places in South Africa but there have always been Steel Safety Nets in place. It is the Sharks domain and we are trespassing

It's a strange mindset where someone obviously ignores warnings, and then pays the price for such behaviour.

Maybe - if he survives which is by no means certain given the trauma and blood loss he has suffered - the man can explain what led him to ignore the warnings and beach closure, if there is a reason that is.

Because he ignored the flags & warning notices, if he recovers I hope the authorities throw the book at him as a warning to other morons.

I think most people would consider his stupidity has been punished enough ron - and hopefully it will serve as a warning to others who may think that ignoring warnings is a clever way to behave.

I swam in the sea at cottesloe w/ australia years ago, and if I'd have realised at the time all them sharks lerking, I'd have had a fit.
I hope he recovers well.

I`ve swum at Cottesloe beach as well. The only sharks I remember were on two legs (you would think they`d never seen a lone female before). I think I prefer the ones in the sea with the big teeth!

Terribly sad and, if he survives, he and his family will have the rest of his life to rue his decision to ignore the signs. One can only hope that others will note the consequences ...
