Not sure about wotserface as she won't be as knowledgable as Kate I wouldn't think. Maybe she'll grow on us (like a wart). BTW I think we last 'spoke' when I put niger seed out in May to attract Goldfinches of which I have seen zilch. Wrong time to put it out really but yesterday I put some fresh out so fingers crossed I'll see some before Christmas. Catch you later.
Try sunflower hearts for the goldfinches - I haven't put it out recently 'cos they were getting through a bag a week, but will start now the weather is getting colder. They really loved it. Niger seed - i got a different feeder as the one with the tiny slits in it seemed to make it difficult for them. The one I've got is one which has a sort of dispenser at the bottom, a bigger space for them to feed from.
I agree helly, I didn't have goldfinches until I put sunflower hearts in one of the feeders. They never touched the niger seed.
I really enjoyed both programmes last night and although Michaela was obviously nervous I thought she was better than the wide eyed, head swishing Kate. Loved the orphaned baby squirrels! :o)

Hi Ladybirder, I hope you enjoy AW today. Our hedgrows are so full of fruit and berries, I have no birds on the feeders at the moment, but I'm sure they'll be back soon. Saw a lovely young Buzzard today swooped right over the car, and landed in the field next to me, nearly crashed I was gawping so much lol.
Martin looked rather nice in that long coat I thought.... SWOOOOOOOOOOOOOON....Thud....

Thanks so much for the link to the ospreys rowan. Fingers crossed they make it back again safely. Martin looks about 4'6" in that coat LOL.
Well I watched it this afternoon and oh my didn't Westonbirt Arboretum look stunning in its autumn attire. Beautiful. And Chris is such a sweetheart, it's all about the nature and nothing else for him. Him and the hornets' nest was a joy to watch. Is there anything he doesn't know. I thought Michaela did an OK job but I've never particularly warmed to her and I don't know why. Maybe she'll grow on us.
Chaffinch how great to see a buzzard so close up. I saw a red kite very close up one day when it rose up from behind a hedge. I nearly fell over, good job I wasn't driving. Regarding the feeders I'm getting only greenfinch, robin, blue and great tits at present. I'm sure yours will be back in droves shortly. Roll on next AW.

Ohhhh, Its so nice to have all the SW back for a chat, abour AW. Just wish my birds would return. MHG looked lovely if a little errr vertically challenged, but my Chris still ruled my roost!! What did you all think of the Herring Gull eating the bats? difficult one, but for me I'm on the bats side (loads shot gun............and heads for the hills)
