My aunt has a german shepherd with separation anxiaty and hates the kennel Chance (the dog) is a rescue, his last owners left him on the street. :-( When he is in the kennel he whines and barks HOW DO YOU STOP THAT?? They've tried a blanket and simply ignoring him but doesn't seem to work. She has a shock collar but would prefer not to use it. Any other ideas?

he chews everything when they are away. and crafty i dont really know.

Maybe try an indoor cage and leave a radio or tv on....

Tell them they may be better giving the dog to someone who isn't going to be out for long periods.

hes a bit younger than 2 probably 1 1/2 or younger

daffy they arnt gone long but when they are gone thats what he does and they might have to give him to our/my family because they already have a dog.

Oh poor dog!.......he needs company most of the time, he's had a bad experience in the past, and needs owners who can be there for him!....a kennel is not the answer!.....will only make the problem worse, he needs human company and reassurance!............

The indoor cage is the best idea if they're dead set on keeping him, but as he's young, and has some issues, it's going to take lots of work and patience to get him over these and using a shock collar is an appalling idea- so please don't do that, he'd be far better somewhere else if they're even considering that.

yea i agree no shock collar but hes destructive so what or where should they put him?

it shockes dog with a small shock... i know its horrible! (they dont use it!)

If he's destructive he's worried upset and bored by and large so don't leave him alone for long periods and when you do put him in an indoor cage/ crate inj the house and as crafty said leave the tV on. Get him used to the crate for short periods at first when they are about and gradually lengthen the time until he's calm and happy, then go out for a very short period etc... I'm sure you get my drift.

daisy I know GSD pups can be destructive!......mine where at times!....but the best option is a cage!........the shock collar is just cruel!.............

I have a Cocker Spaniel Puppy, I have left her alone for a short time every day since I got her, and have gradually extended the time she is left, she is now fine for around 3 to 4 hours, she just goes to her bed until I return!....and so she is obviously settled, and knows that I'll be home soon!.....

welsh yes shock collars are cruel and the best option is the cage but he barks a lot so i need tips on stoping that my aunt knows im a dog lover and a big resercher (from my dad) and adore Chance.
