Feeding Saint Bernard dogs
6 Answers
I have two St Bernards, the boy is 18 months old and the girl is 5 months old.
The boy is on Arden grange adult lamb and rice, i just wondered if he should be on large breed instead. I would be grateful for any advice. Thanks

The breeder is the best person to ask, although for most giant breeds a large breed puppy/junior then adult food is advisable. However some breeds may grow too quickly on higher protein food and very large slow maturing breeds might need a lower protein than most puppy foods contain.

If you cannot or don't want to contact your breeder, you could try contacting someone on this 'Breed Buddies' scheme

Because a giant breed has different nutritional needs to most other breeds, as they have such a lot of growing to do in a short time. Just meat and biscuits does no contain enough vitamins and minerals to provide all they need. Modern day foods are nutritionally balanced. Even people who feed 'raw' (back me up here Ratter!) have to carefully balance the food they give, especially with large or giant breeds.
