can anyone help please..our cat's been out all day, thats unusual in itself..when the wife called him in,he eventually came, but not his usual lively self.he went upstairs and hid under the bed.when we tried to get him out,he screeched like he was in pain, but there are no visible signs of injury,no limping,no bleeding..he won't have food and just doesn't want to be touched..any ideas, thanx in advance.

He could have been in a fight and be scared or he may have been hit by a vehicle. There is often no outward sign of injury but if he's acting out of character then you need to get him checked over. A vet can feel if there are any injuries that aren't visible.
I think that your cat must be a lover and not a fighter - getting wounds on the bum end usually means that the cat was fleeing for his life when attacked.
I hope that he gets well soon - cat bite wounds can turn really nasty. My lady cat is vicious and has bitten me a few times. I have had to take antibiotics each time. Good job I love her.
