Are there any wasp or bee experts here? How far would wasps and bees chase an intruder from their nest and can they fly faster then a human can run?

Yesterday we were in the park when a man who had gone to urinate in the bushes came running out shouting he thinks there's a wasp nest there. We didn't see any wasps or bees so maybe some other creature spooked him.
If there was wasps or bees there would he have been able to out run them and just how far would they chase him, until he wasn't a threat or until they got him?
One more question, if you are being chased by wasps or bees is it better to run in a straight line or zig zag to confuse them?

They would only chase about 20-30 meters in my experience as a Pest Controller. a zig zag is going to make no difference to a wasp or a bee, it isnt tracking you with a rifle!
in France (I dont know if French wasps are different) but a wasp chased our car for a good half mile down a track/lane. We were unable to go very fast due to the terrain and it kept butting into the back of the car. Only when we turned onto the road again and were able to pick up speed did we lose it. So glad I wasnt on foot!
A case for the SWAT team?
