Twice this week a little goldfinch has crashed into our glass doors. Can anyone please suggest anything we can stick on the glass to stop them, which doesn't look tacky.. I have seen big coloured birds transfers or stickers etc but these look hideous and we don't want it to look awful from our lounge.

Hi Ann, maybe a decoration ,crystal type thing that shines, like a mobile .
You can get smallish, black silhouette stickers. They don't look too bad.
Nets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vertical blinds.
If you can afford it, change the doors to Georgian style. We have those and don't have birds flying into them.

We have vertical blinds at all the other windows Tilly but like to keep the patio door ones clear as it makes the room look bigger as if its an extension to our garden.

Good idea flump - I have seen those twirly silver mobiles in garden centres, we may try those, thanks.

Little goldfinch who flew in to them this afternoon has now recovered and flown off after sitting stunned for a while...........
You can buy rolls of clear tape, like sellotape, which have silver/gold dots printed about every 2 inches on them designed to warn of glass
Ann, am I right in remembering you had a problem with a shattered
pane of glass before in a patio door was it?

Did you resolve that one. If it's the same doors I would definitely get
something on them. x

Hi chi-chi - well remembered! Yes its the same patio doors .......... we got it fixed last week, glaziers said it would have taken more than a small bird to make it break from top to bottom like it did, so the mystery remains! Luckily the insurance company paid out - we had £50 excess to pay. The bird table is situated well away from them - halfway across the lawn so I don't know why they fly into them ...........
It's the sparrowhawks. They send them into a panic.
A owl pic might do it. (I think I'm becoming obsessed with owls!). A friend had a little glass disc with an owl painted on it, seemed to work
Question Author
Yes Tilly I really don't like sparrowhawks, my least favourite bird! but fingers x I haven't seen one for a while.
Lace curtains?
you could use stick on leading... make a kind of panes in a diamond pattern ...perhaps add a few coloured panes...you can buy it in strips or paint it on with a tube
