Greater Horeshoe Bats in Buckfastleigh :

Here's a map of the Buckfastleigh area - you need to park by the "chapel rems of" at the end of the yellow road near the centre of the map. Then walk along the path which sets off roughly northwards from the parking area.

Get there about 15 minutes before dusk on a warm summer evening, walk down the track about 50 yards and wait quietly. You don't need a detector - these things are the size of soup plates and flying up the 'green tunnel' are very impressive. One of the most amazing wildlife experiences I've ever had in the UK.

That's 'Horseshoe' ... aaargh
Has gness got ' Bats in the belfrey ' ?
Dave. Thank you. Something I so want to see. Just one warm summer evening in the whole holiday and I would be happy. Rain can stop though as I need a bird fix. Too much building and not enough birding has meant too few visits to Rutland Water.
A visit to DT`s mother could be on the cards!
Thanks Tony! See I got your bottom into a Limerick yesterday?
A limerick, where is it gness ?.
Tilly2 at 19:53 yesterday. Expecting contributions from Rowan and DT to appear.
"these things are the size of soup plates"
You wouldn't want one of these in your hair

Thank you Rohan. Not in my hair perhaps but a fascinating creature.
Gness will be in Devon at this time of year,
Where Buckfastleigh Horseshoe Bats appear,
The Monks are on their tonic, drunk as newts
their bats flying around, supping the alchie fruit,
Iin the Monastery, zombies abound; gness, go ahead and do not fear.
Dtcrossword fan, that was great! Are you a pro poet?
drop the alchie from it!
An ode to my holiday! Thank you DT and I shall not fear. x
We have two resident poets Rohan. DT and Rowan and their contributions are not to be missed.
Yep, even DT's pretty good lol.
Really gness that's hard to believe, are you sure you're not trying to deceive, maybe i can join their merry band as three poets in the bush are worth two in the hand.

I'm also a bit of an amateur poet^
Give us an example, Rohan.
That was it tonav^
Very good Rohan but so wish you hadn`t mentioned bush when this lot are around!
