My Sandy has a Brain Tumour
65 Answers
We've only had him for four years (got him as a pup after Tara) and about six weeks ago he started having epileptic fits. Golden Retreivers seem to be
quite often epileptic. Then the fits came more often and today he had a CT scan which confirmed a brain tumour.
I'm just devastated. Tomorrow the surgeon will explain our options, but it doesn't look good. Apart from the cost (a few thousand - I'd pay if it made him better) the outlook even after that is not promising.
I'm afraid decisions will have to be made.
Life's a bitch.

Today we had to let him go.
The X-ray showed his lungs were riddled with cancer.
I just wish they had phoned us before we went to pick him up. We were so looking forward to it.
He came bounding into the surgery and licked my ears the way he always did, which made it even harder, knowing as we now did, that he would have two months at the most. Finally his lungs would fill up and he wouldn't
be able to breathe. We wanted to spare him that.
He deserved a happy, healthy life and I'm so angry he didn't get it.

oh tara.
my eyes watered when i just saw your post.
after the hope yesterday that it there might be a way to save him (although expensive) - today must have been such a hammer blow.
i'm tearing up again just typing this.
however - you know the right thing was done at the end.
look back now on the good times you shared, and always remember..
my sincerest condolencies, and wishes for you.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
