16 Answers
Arthur, our cat was put down last week, we did our best but He was really looking ill and the ear cancer was getting worse every day, He must have been nearly twenty years old.. Very sad, o.h. said thats it, no more animals, got enough to worry about with children, grandchildren etc. But, I feel we could give another homeless cat a good home. is that a good idea, or should i wait a while?

You are obviously a very caring person to be thinking of this - you don't have to wait a certain time before you get another pet - what's right for you is wrong for someone else - giving another animal a good home would be a wonderful legacy for Arthur though and if you feel like doing it now, go ahead, if not wait a while.x

so sorry to hear about Arthur, but if he was suffering it was for the best, and
he was a good age.
my cat is 18, and I have said that if she goes before I do, I won't get
another, cos I'm getting down that road too...and as you know they can live
a long time, and I worry what would happen to it..I dont like to think of it
having to be re-homed.
if I did, it would be an older cat..a rescue one..

So sorry for your loss.
Our pets are with us for such a relatively short time and though there is no right and wrong I have always gone with a one in one out basis... to some it may sound harsh but when I lost my first Great Dane I too did the 'never again' speech and only hurt myself and denied a hound a home.
I lost my cat called Mouse a while back and will be finding a puss to fill his hole soon [delayed by my holiday].
If it feels right then do it.
Much love

Percy, poor old arthur had a good long life, and you did the best for him. If you feel up to giving a young cat a good home and a happy long life go ahead. I was heartbroken when I had to have my cat put to sleep and vowed I wouldn't have another one. But after a few years I would like another one. We usually go abroad once or twice a year, or have the odd weekend away. My next door neighbour loved looking after him while we went away but she isn't up to looking after one now. So to be fair I'll think about getting another cat when we stop gadding about so much.
I had my cat put to sleep two months ago, and I'm not getting another one for the moment. Not because I don't want one but because I'm not in a sittuation where I can. When my last dog died I swore never again, but two months later I was presented with one for my birthday. I was horrified at first! But I love her to bits now. Only you know your OH well enough to know whether she really doesn't want one or whether she does but doesn't feel it's the right time, or is waiting for you to make the decision. If in doubt, wait a while.
