Man washes his hands in molten lead? One for the Londoners

Here's a weird one. About 50 years ago, there was a live broadcast on the BBC radio from the Morganite Crucible factory where a man washed his hands in molten lead. You can do it if the lead is hot enough and your hands are wet but don't try this at home kiddies.
Anyway you could see the foundry from our back bedroom window and they had the doors open and I can remember watching it as it happened and hearing the radio broadcast.
I can't find a mention of it anywhere on the net. The hot lead wet hands phenomenon is documented, but not that specific occasion.
Does anyone else remember/know anything about this please?

Heathfield thank you. I know about the history and the science, found it all online as you have...Its the actual event that I witnessed that I am asking about.
Sorry, I can't help you with the actual event, Woofie. But I do remember that for a while, around the time you mention, putting your hand in molten lead became a topic of conversation amongst us youngsters. (None of us were daring enough to try it. Probably just as well !!)
