The pup is around 5 months now and I've noticed the last couple of days, his breath is awful!

Has this ever happened to your pup? He has 2 breath freshener treats everyday. Can it be due to teething? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Bit young for plaque problems in the mouth so could it be diet?
Can you have a good look around her mouth? Most likely cause from my experience is a tooth that should have fallen out and didn't and is now decaying or decaying food stuck in the mouth. If it was me I would be popping pup to the vet if you can get a look and can't see anything.

The breeder told me I need to clean his teeth from a year old as Chihuahuas can get yellow teeth/plaque.

I will try and look in his mouth but he's always hated having his mouth looked at and I don't really know what I'm looking for. Sounds like another trip to the vets. Didn't realise it could be serious until I looked online.
I think the same as seadogg - what are you giving him to eat? Does his poo look normal? Is he quite happy apart from his bad breath?

No hope looking is his mouth! He wriggles too much and is petrified lol.

He is eating Applaws dog food with a few James Wellbeloved (Duck rice and kibble) biscuits mixed in. He seems fine in himself and his poos are normal. It's only his breath that's changed.
Are all her adult teeth in now, if not it may just be due to teething. Or she could have a baby tooth that is impacted in her gums and has become infected. I would get the vet to take a look.
one of the problems with chi's can be a crowded mouth (too many teeth for the jaw size.) so yes, i would pop him to the vet who will need to look in his mouth. Its important that you do as an infection from a tooth can spread and make a pup really ill, the same as it can in a child.
Is he salivating a lot? This can cause a sort of eczema round the lips which smells foul. Bathing the area with a medicated mouth wash can help
Is he eating something nasty/disgusting when out? (from the owner of 2 labradors!)
