Like others on this thread I wondered how the perpetrators managed to get hold of her in the first place. It says in this article that her owner went to the back door and called her but she did not come running as usual. So they walked down the back lane towards the quarry where they saw her coming across a field, limping and in such a terrible condition they didn't recognise her.
It sounds as if she was allowed to run free and I wonder if this is usually the case in Ireland; if so this practice must be fraught with danger for the animal concerned.
