Dog stabbed to death

I would not have expected a terrier in the jaws of an American Bulldog to have survived long enough for the owner to go home and collect some knives to rescue his dog if the American Bulldog was seriously trying to kill it.

I feel for the dog also-as it is a victim of its owner's inability to control or discipline it. But I think I'd be driven to do anything to protect my own dog in a similar situation. Ther is a dog around here that's attacked my Sally twice...the first time wounding her neck. The second time the owner was near,but I was trying to kick this dog away...NO dog is going to hurt mine-particularly as Sally doesn't have an aggressive bone in her body,and does not fight back.

I be inclined to get a rope or lead and grab the dog round the neck with it and drag it away.

I agree the dog sounds as though he wasnt very well controlled re ower. and to stab it in heat of the moment to protect your own animail is one thing, but to go home,calm down and get knives, then return to scene and stab 23 times seems a bit extreme

I doubt it very much. It would take an awful lot of strength and adrenalin to do so...and I'm not an agressive person. I'd want to disable it though.
That's why I wonder 'why 23 stabs?'

I doubt you'd be able to grab it round the neck NoM, it'd have you. My son tried to break a dog fight up once when his dog was being attacked. He ended up in casualty.
Pasta I don't know what I'd do because I couldn't stab an animal to death either. The shock of a bucket of water over them might give you a minute to sort them out or a hosepipe might do the trick. I hope the Bulldog's owner is never allowed to keep another dog.

an american bulldog is quite big. when a dog like that attacks, it does so until it can't anymore. i would say it's a pretty dangerous dog that needs that amount of stab wounds to stop.

NoMercy, I doubt you'd be able to put a rope or lead around a dog like that and drag it away, if you did it'll still have the other dog clamped in its jaws.

ELVIS I actually saw that happen in Richmond Park one day. Chap lifted his own JRT out of fight and it had another one still hanging on the end of it.

i got bitten round the face by a westie when i was 10. it clamped on my face and didn't let go. i remember my brother punching it repeatedly to get it off, and it took around 10 to do so. i have a clear memory because when it decided to let go of my face, he punched me by accident! the damage that that little dog did to my face was quite bad and i still have scars from it. i dread to think what a dog the size of a bull terrier would do. wrapping a lead round it or saying here doggie just wouldn't do it.

This is a totally different thing. A dangerous dog, out of control. You'd have to be very lucky to stab it only a few times to kill it with that type of knife.

The police have done the right thing, not charging him.

i wish people would read the article. the bulldog was 42kg and the bloke had already tried punching and kicking it to get it off his dog. the knives were used as a last resort.

I have strong memories of my Dad lifting our Beagle up off the ground by his lead-out of the reach of a Boxer's jaws...I'm still wary of that breed.

I'm wary of all dogs since my much beloved, soppy old gal suddenly turned viciously on another dog.
She was 15 and hadn't a bad bone in her body. Unbeknown to us she was in great pain that day and died shortly afterwards.

You just never know.

My little dog was attacked last week and even though we were able to lift our dog up quickly, the other dog still managed to inflict a large enough wound on his side to need stapling by the vet. If I had been unable to get my dog free from this other dog, then I would have resorted to kicking, punching whatever it took to get it off my dog, I couldn't hurt an animal in any other circumstances, but your protective instinct really comes to the fore and I would have done all I could to protect my dog even if it meant I got bitten myself, so I can totally see where this man was coming from, however the ultimate blame has to be with the woman owner for letting her huge dog 'terrorise' the neighbourhood. Also for those who say the Dog Wardens could have helped, don't believe it. I looked on my council website after this attack to see what the dog wardens do, it appears that in my area, they only deal with lost or stray dogs, they say the Police are responsible for dealing with dangerous dogs.
