Just saw a cat get knocked down on a busy main road, then someone's dog slipped its lead and ran out after the injured cat ! Owner pulled dog off cat, I pulled over further down the road, as no one else seemed to be stopping, the owner of the dog just ran off, picked the cat up out of the road to the grass verge, poor kitty was wearing a collar and tag so I've left a very upsetting message on someone's voicemail :( I'm in bits....

well done for picking puss up and laying on the side, i have lost several on the road and we live in a rural quiet village , young man who hit 1 of them came to the door with her in his arms and stood and cried with me poor lad but was so grateful that he stopped and bothered to find out where her home was

I've heard that as cats are small-and tend to dash out-drivers may not even be aware they've hit one.
So sorry you had to see that-but well done for contacting the owner...there is nothing worse than searching for a missing pet.
I've always been thankful to the neighbour who knocked on my door with my not very street-wise black cat in a box....I'd always gotten him in at night-but the field mice were too tempting.

We done for contacting the owner - it's a horrible thing to have to do but they would want to know what happened to their cat. I was grateful to the person who was kind enough to come and tell me that she'd knocked down one of my cat years back - she was in bits about it but had the grace to stop at least.

As it was a busy main road it may not have been safe to stop. It was nice to let the owners know.

As a microchipper I get notified if a cat (or dog) that is microchipped is missing in my area. I always carry a scanner round with me to check any I see that have been hit or stray dogs, and its getting much more common for cats to be chipped now.

It just doesn't seem right does it? to have to report details about a dog,yet not to bother about poor cats. That was lovely of you to think of the poor owners.x

I had a horrid experience years ago........ i was on my wy home from work and was driving up a side road I always used, I wasn't going fast as I was coming up to a junction, and a cat came out from under a parked car and went straight under my wheels - I hadn't even seen it. It rushed into the garden opposite, and died on the path. I got out of my car and was going to ring on the doorbell to see if it was either their cat, or knew where it belonged, but was greeted by an absolutely furious man who shouted at me for some time. I apologised over and over, I really didn't think it was my fault, it was an accident, and I was very upset too. I drove the rest of the way home in tears. I really don't think I could have done anything more, but whenever I hear or see anything about cats being injured or killed in accidents it brings it all back to me, even though the accident was in 1991
An awful experience, which I hope that other people don't have to go through.

islasmum, an upsetting experience, no doubt. It obviously wasn't your fault. The owner was clearly upset too and would probably see the situation for what it was the next day.

Thanks wildwood - I'm sure that the owner must have been very upset, but I hope that I'd be a bit nicer to anyone if the roles were reversed.
