Had a diseased rowan taken out of our front garden a year ago. It was all done professionally. They came back 6 months after to kill off the roots. But
ever since then we have been getting lots of fungus. Two questions:- 1] How do I get rid of the fungus [there is a lot, it's spread out in the direction the tree roots would have been.] And 2nd question how long should I wait before planting another tree, if ever?
The fungus is coming from old dead roots which with the best will in the world you won't remove completely. You can plant a tree now as the fungus won't attack live roots.
Thankyou so much for your answer johnk. That's what I was worried about. I didn't want to go to the expense of planting a new tree because I thought the fungus would damage it. You've put my mind at rest, thankyou.
Tilly2, not sure they would now, but I suppose there is no harm in asking.
Cupid - I'm afraid the advice you have received here is not true. Fungus can and does attack live trees. Suggest you get the area treated to get rid. See link for more info...
