Was it ever really alive?
The Israelis are ignoring a UN resolution not to build in territory outside of the boundary set at its formation.
They claim the captured land is the spoils of war when they were attacked 50 years ago. The people displaced when Israel were given the land by the British claim it is stolen.
There have been hundreds of UN resolutions to stop Israel building on the captured land but they ignore it. This latest one is no different.
Israel is a rough state that is effectively bankrupt. Without the $biilions sent by the US every year, the would be as impoverished as the Palestinians are now.
It is a very complex almost impossible task to bring peace to this region. Throwing Tony Blair at the problem is laughable and just demonstrates our lack of commitment and general disingenuousness to them.

Baz,
The UN is the collected opinion of all the countries in the world. It is a consensus of how the rest of the world sees it.
9 countries voted against upgrading recognition of the Palestinians out of 193.
The result is very clear. The UN is occasionally wrong, usually when one country uses the veto. There was no veto this time and the decision reflected accurately the rest of the worlds view.

What peace process ? There is no process , just two extremists trying to force the other side to back down for the past 70 odd years. The same arguements ,the same rhetoric . Like much in politics they all agree on basic principles but can/will not put those principles into practice.
To do so requires giving in/backing down/ compromising on fundamental red lines, set by the extremists.

You can almost understand why the US sides with Israel as Israelis form a high proportion of American citizens. Also its a staging post in the Middle east with American values but surrounded by hostile Arab countries with a different agenda.
However Britain has no real close links with Israel and wouldn't be duly harmed if wiped off the face of the map. But instead of voting with our consciences we become proxy servers to the US administration by abstaining at the UN. Because of this the Middle East envoy Tony Blair has as much clout as a wet sock.

Admittedly the Jewish lobby only make up 2 to 3% of the US population but wield enormous power.
