I had that problem so I very much got him into a routine of a main meal about 3 in the afternoon - a good meal - that is is for 24 hours so when you walk him you have walked excusing the info but it is out of him. If even i give my dog some chips or meat about 6 then he has me up crying to go to the toilet. He now looks forward to his main meal at 3. I was feeding him at 12 and 6 and it was disastrous in that he would not eat the meal at 6 so I felt he was too full - he has happy with 3 and I had to throw that 6 o'clock meal out.
What time do you get up in the morning ? Just a thought that a young dog should be let out to toilet around 5-6am each morning until he has proper bladder and bowel control, so if you are getting up at say after 7am then he will no doubt be desperate to go loo. How do you know what time he is leaving these 'parcels' ?
We feed our dog as late as 7 with no problems. He also does not have an evening walk, but we do have a dog flap.... Dogs should be able to hold their faeces. In the wild they use it as a marking mechanism so do not have the same controls as humans do. Might be worth a quick trip to the vets to see if he has any other health problems. One word of warning, if you feed the dog without first eating yourself it gives them the impression that they are leader of the pack. Make sure you eat something while he watches, even if it is a piece of fruit. It is much healthier if dogs do not rule their masters.
Young dogs usually open their bowels after eating .Have you tried feeding him just a little food before you let him out late at night.?This might stimulate his bowels and he might poo before going to bed.
Another thing that may help, but you will need patience and perseverance - when you take your dog out last thing at night keep walking him round UNTIL he does open his bowels, only after that happens you can return home. All dogs need a strict routine, sleep, feed, toilet walk. Keep to a schedule of times if possible and he will soon get the idea.
I'd feed him a bit earlier than you have been doing, and see if that helps him.
If he 'leaves you a parcel in the night' then his feeding regime doesn't suit him. Best thing to do is to juggle things till you've cracked it. The tweaking may only be minimal -what time do you get up? if it's later than 6 or 7 then you need to adjust your lifestyle. It's possible you may need to get up earlier for a while - decrease the time between 'walkies' until you reach a compromise - he's still pretty young.
Make sure he goes 'Walkies' as late as possible and gets 'Praised' when he has a result.
Chihuahua does it on newspaper in kitchen regularly. Pick up with tissue/toilet paper & flush down loo; easy mop floor - no prob.
