Handicare Stairlifts (Age Uk)

I`m getting quotes for stairlifts at the moment. I`ve got Stannah coming tomorrow and we had Acorn visit this morning. Flippin 'eck - talk about hard sell. They up the anxiety factor and even do the old "phoning the office" trick. I see that Age UK work with someone called Handicare Stairlifts. Has anyone got any experience of them?

Hi 237SJ Please avoid Acorn. My wife and I had a very bad experience with them several years ago. Hi 237SJ
Please avoid Acorn. My wife and I had a very bad experience with them several years ago. We bought a stairlift from them for my wife's mother at a cost of £2300, on the understanding that should the need arise they would buy it back. Sadly, she only had use of it for 1 month as she passed away. Consequently I contacted Acorn and asked if they would honour their agreement and buy the stairlift back - they agreed but only offered £400 !!! Also, if I wanted them to uninstall it, it would cost me £300. Needless to say I told them what to do with their offers and sold it on to a friend whose son has MS. He is still using it. I would suggest you get quotes for both buying and renting. Good luck.

Thanks fgb. I think I read your post about that when I searched this site. I must admit, their product looks very good but even so, they`ve shot themselves in the foot with their sales practices. The guy played on anxiety in a big way and did the old trick of phoning through to the "office" and hey presto - came back with a cheaper price. He measured up whilst showing us a video by Hilary Jones on the ipad which also played up on the anxiety. Of course, the better price via the office was only available today (yeah right) and he disappeared up to use the loo, thus giving us some space to make up our minds. I couldn`t believe he wanted us to buy it there and then. I feel like reporting them actually. I`ve got a couple of other companies coming this week, but will definitely not use Acorn.
I used these people for MIL's stairlift, never had a problem and they will service every year.
