Sony Vaio, Windows 8, Mouse Cursor??

My mouse cursor has disappeared and I can do nothing on my laptop, the progs are all there but even with the arrow keys which move things, I cannot get into anything. The usb mouse has never worked either? There is a symbol of a screen (i think it is) with a cross above it. I think it has gone into tactile mode but swiping the screen doesn't work, please help before I have to phone them?

boot into safe mode pressing F8 key when pc boots up.then go to system restore and restore pc back to an earlier date when mouse was working
