Cat Keeps Jumping On Kitchen Tops
59 Answers
For some reason the bloody cat has taken a liking to the kitchen work tops. He never ever used to jump on the sides but now he's on them all the time. I was making a sarnie yesterday and he jumped up right next to me as if it's just ok.
It's gross.
I already use a citric cleaner but that obviously doesn't put him off and I never keep any food out.
Any suggestions to stop the little bugger?

I tried the "speaking to ASBO" on his own level thing. Trouble is, ASBO thinks he is superior to everyone (apart from when he wants to snuggle). Last time I tried talking to him on his level I nearly lost my nose.
I tried the "GET DOWN!" thing followed by unceremoniously dumping him on the floor. Good game that. Could go on for hours.
So I followed it with "GET DOWN" and a squirt from a kitchen spray bottle filled with water. Now all I have to do is pick up the bottle and he KNOWS!

If you have a high barstool put is next to the work tops.
Sit your cat on it and reward him with a little piece of chicken. Every time he tries to go on the work top put him back on the stool and reward him again with a piece of chicken (or whatever he likes). Yo have to repeat it often, it works. Just be patient.
