Hi all,

My dog has had 3 episodes of peeing blood. On the first occasion the vet gave antibiotics. 3 weeks later, we were back with the same problem........another lot of antibiotics, with the proviso that we need to get x-rays etc if it happened again. 6 weeks this time, but here we are again with the same problem. She's booked in on Tuesday for said x-rays. (no antibiotics this time, as we need to find the cause)

There doesn't seem to be any blood in her pee this evening, so I'm wondering if she is perhaps passing a stone when the blood occurs? Does that sound possible?

I really hate that it's a bank holiday weekend, as we are having to wait to get this done! In the meantime, I'm making sure she has plenty of water and checking that she is passing it ok.................anything else anyone can think of and have any of you been through similar?

Your vet must have emergency cover - we can go to a vet in another town if ours is shut. Details should be on your vet's answerphone.

Thanks, boxtops. We do indeed have emergency cover and if things get bad I will use it! What I meant was, that with the bank holiday everything is taking longer. Vet checked her out today and was happy it could wait until Tuesday. I'm happy tonight to see no blood, but believe me, if I'm worried I will pay Bank Holiday rates to get her seen. I was just wondering if anyone thought it may have been a stone she passed this morning, which is why I'm not seeing blood now? I'm just guessing at that.
did you actually see the stone?
I think if the dog was passing stones there would be much discomfort and you would know it was causing a problem. If the dog is peeing ok without any distress then I doubt it is stones.

Vets found no lumps or anything "sinister" in her bladder. Have to wait a while now for results of urine etc to see what to do next.
Good news so far then.

A little "update". Wonder if any of you have any views or suggestions?

The diagnosis is struvite crystals, and we will be doing the special food they recommend to break the crystals down.

Unfortunately, my dog is already on a special diet for very bad skin problems. That diet (vet recommended) sorted out her skin, but I now wonder if it played a part in forming these crystals?

Hey, ho, all fun and games..............I'm sure we'll find a diet that suits eventually, but we are going round in circles right now!
