My Wee Harvey
15 Answers
Looks stunning without that blooming hairy coat - looks like a wee puppy again. Groomer (first time with this particular one) ie absolutely brilliant groomer. Said to me Harvey was fantastic getting groomed - says I "are you talking about the same dog" cos he couldn't wait to get out of there. He is lovely and clean looking. And I guess nice and cool to get rid of that coat.
Hope that doesn't bore any of you.

Do you know seeker he has cancer of the thyroid has been diagnosed for about 4 weeks. But lively enough with painkillers.

No it doesn't bore us, Connemmara. I'm glad your canine friend is looking his best.
Now I'll bore you with my feline problems today:
1. One of my cats had a big bust-up with a neighbour's moggie, who had sneaked in through the cat flap for a free meal. In the ensuing fight, the 'flap' part of the cat flap was completely broken off, and broken into two pieces.
2. Seeking a new cat flap, I remembered that I'd seen them in B&Q (which is far easier to drive to than Pets at Home because it avoids town centre traffic). However the guy in B&Q told me that they stopped selling them, so I had to drive into town anyway. (Grrr!)
3. In Pets at Home I found that the cat flap manufacturer had changed their model numbers, so I couldn't simply buy a direct replacement. (Double grrr!)
4. I noticed that a cat flap without a lock costs £8 but a cat flap with a lock costs £19. I've never locked my cat flap but, because I hoped to get a model which fitted the existing hole in my door, I chose the one with a lock anyway ('cos the old one had a lock), thus probably wasting £11. (Triple grrr!)
5. At the counter, the salesman warned me that the manufacturer had changed the size of the hole needed in the door. I started to get worried. (Quadruple grrr!)
6. I read the leaflet in the box and noted that the manufacturer sold spare 'flaps' for their models, meaning that I needn't have replaced the entire unit anyway. (Pentuple grrr!)
7. I removed the old unit and tried to fit the new one, only to find that the hole in the glass wasn't quite big enough. (Sextuple grrr!)
8. Resolving to ask, here on AB, how best to enlarge the hole without employing a glazier, I replaced what was left of the old unit (so as not to leave a sharp glass hole for the cats). In doing so, I over-tightened a screw, resulting in a big crack across the glass, so now I've got to get the whole door reglazed! (Octuple grrr!)
But I still love the cats!

Buenchico - sorry to hear of your mishaps - you love your animals but they can be a pain in the a se - they (bless them) are not aware of what you do for them. I know nothing of cat flaps etc but am not bad at DIY (in my day) - you have through a bit of trouble - get a cheapie glazier to do the job for you. You will save money even though you don't think it. You could crack the pane of glass again and more money again.
Thanks for your posts, Boxtops and Connemmara. I've got to travel to Buckinghamshire tomorrow (to stay in a B&B ready for work on Thursday) so the glass will have to remain 'taped up' for now - but I'll probably get around to calling in a glazier some time within the next decade or so!
('Procrastination' is my middle name!)
I'm actually working in Bucks for a 12-hour shift on Thursday, then driving home that eveing (for 2½ hours) only to turn round again on Friday and drive all the way back to the B&B again, for another 12-hour shift on Saturday. The firm I work for would happily have paid for my accommodation on Thursday night. (Indeed, it would have probably have cost them less than my fuel expenses and travelling time when I come home). But I insisted on returning home in between the two days of work. Why? To be with the cats, of course!!!

>>>buen do you not have anybody to take care of them for two days and nights
I try not to leave them for more than a couple of nights. (I'm committed to staying at the B&B on Wednesday & Friday nights, so Thursday would make 3 nights in a row).
The only time I've ever asked someone to look after my cat (just the one at that time) was at Christmas 1995. I left home on Christmas Eve, leaving a key (and a plentiful supply of cat food) with my neighbour & drinking partner, Morrie. I returned home on New Year's Eve to find a cat desperate for food and a pile of unopened tins. On making enquiries, I found that Morrie had been found dead in his living room on Christmas Day :(
So perhaps you can understand why I'm not too confident about asking people to look after my cats!

oh that's sad Buen - I loathe leaving Harv in a kennel - it has been 5 years since I have been on holiday because I know he hates it - he "brakes and brakes" when I bring him to it - anyway - have found a nice site where the lady takes the animals into her home and walks them etc etc - "personal touch" - that is where he will be going next time I go away (when I do) - look up on internet for families where they take the cats into their homes - they are there. Good luck
Thanks for your post, Connemmara.
I've not been on a proper holiday abroad since 1989. I've done loads of day trips abroad (because Stansted Airport and Eurostar are both within easy range) but I've not actually stayed in a hotel.
Now that I've finally got a bit of money in the bank (not much though!) I'll actually be staying in a foreign hotel for the first time in nearly of a quarter of a century in July. However that's just for 2 nights because . . . (oh, surely you've worked out the reason by now - miaow!).
I'll probably be reporting here later about my experiences in a hotel that charges just £20 per night despite being right in the centre of Madrid! (The online reviews are surprisingly good!).
Anyway, I'd better go to bed now (as soon as I've replied to Wolf's thread anyway), so I'll wish you 'Good night'.

Good morning buen - don't believe a word of your posting "Now that I've finally got a bit of money in the bank (not much though!) - you are loaded you lucky git. I hopefully will get a holiday (next year - fancy Portugal) never been there - but Harv (if he is still living) will be going to a personal home. Do the same for yourself - you seem to work so hard - give yourself a break from the moggies- you know they couldn't give a sh t as long they get food and water is all they want. You were unlucky last time (1995 (18 years ago) give yourself a break. You will be dead and your moggies could outlive you. I do understand your commitment tho -believe me - but you need a good holiday- am reiterating - get them into a personal home. Good luck - am done -
